The Internet, and especially its search-engines, bring a new dimension to the study of Finnegans Wake. This page will bring together the best known resources, with tips on how to use them for this purpose.

For now, Google gives the best results for general searches, but its database is smaller than AllTheWeb and AltaVista (below).
Doublequotes "like this" imply a phrase (words in exact order). Periods between words "like.this.example" can be used instead of quotes. Google assumes AND (never OR). NOT is "-pattern" (minus sign). Plus signs are only useful when the word is a very-common 'stopword'. The asterisk wildcard "ending*" doesn't work. Upper/lowercase is irrelevant. [more help]

Ireland-specific
This Latin translator is inflexible:
Dublin slang; int'l slang, Australian
Dictionary definitions, plus 'puns' for unknown spellings.
Excellent wildcards both "one-let?er" and "multi*s" (embedded okay). Avoid inflected forms (plural, past tense). [more help]
(Someone once described FW as the dreaming of the EB-- but Joyce used the legendary 11th edition. Project Gutenberg has plans to do the 11th someday, under the name 'Project Gutenberg Encyclopedia'.)
