The Multi-Colored Text Research Site

Last updated: October 1997

This site offers 216 pages of 16k each, each page offering a different 'browser-safe' background color along with 216 samples of text in each foreground color. My purpose is to encourage text-hackers to experiment with the expressive value of new color combinations.

A simple six-direction navigation scheme allows one to move easily between pages by a minimal increment of the red, green, or blue component.

While the text-samples, at this point, are quite boring, I'd like to encourage colored-text enthusiasts to submit new samples for particular combinations of foreground/background, or links to pages that use that combination. I will try to add these in at the proper spots.

Poems or single words or whatever are welcome, within reason.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: The Robot Wisdom Pages include far more text than anyone could be expected to read online, so within the next few months we hope to offer most of it in a $20 hardcopy edition-- some two megabytes of text in a 240-page, large-size format, divided four ways between James Joyce, artificial intelligence, internet culture/ hypertext design, and miscellaneous topics. If you'd like to be informed by email when this becomes available, please send me email with the words 'hardcopy list' as the subject or in the body. [More on the hardcopy edition]
